The double-standard is "despicable" here; that our society fails to even MENTION their culpability in this matter is alarming. 5yrs & life-long registry as "Sex offender, child molestation" for reduced sentences is "cruel & unusual punishment", exceeding far beyond any conceivable MAXimum punishment for a bunch of morally & intellectually bereft idiots & marginal minors.
For shame, America. We should be embarrased as a Nation. This is NOT a Georgian, Southern, or similar issue...it's indemic nationally.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1205626401984449616.post-16785882405428656502007-10-27T08:58:00.000-07:002007-10-27T08:58:00.000-07:00EHT, thanks for the clarification. But I continue to believe that none of the boys should have been charged and convicted, and I don't think that consensual sex between minors should be a crime - even a misdemeanor as it is now.

There are people that were criminally culpable, though, and little has been said about them. The parents. Whoever supplied the room and the alchohol and knowingly let their kids go to such a thing; perhaps more correcty, fail to keep them from such situations.

But back to main point of the post, which is that the DA also acted despicably. His entire conduct, especially in failing to protect the identities of the minors involved and control access to the evidence was, using your word, despicable.Dirk Gentlyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05210065444706441795noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1205626401984449616.post-48300338912927741312007-10-26T18:12:00.000-07:002007-10-26T18:12:00.000-07:00Another thought.....It's been awhile since I wrote...Another thought.....It's been awhile since I wrote this but if I remember correctly the line you pull out of my text is referring to the whole idea that kids are spending their time having group sex and recording it. I did not mean to make it seem that the boys were the only ones responsible. The DA wanted to paint the whole thing as if the girls had been taken advantage of. They had not.

The whole idea behind that party was dispicable.EHThttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17964668210604436937noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1205626401984449616.post-6746911281020943402007-10-26T17:53:00.000-07:002007-10-26T17:53:00.000-07:00Dirk, I'm sorry if I didn't make it clear in my po...Dirk, I'm sorry if I didn't make it clear in my post.....the choice of the girls was just as wrong as the boys. They packed a suitcase to go spend the night with a group of boys. They knew exactly what they were going to be doing. They are just as at fault as the boys.

The situation saddens me that young kids are doing these sorts of things at such young ages.EHThttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17964668210604436937noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1205626401984449616.post-91729571033105332932007-10-26T11:41:00.000-07:002007-10-26T11:41:00.000-07:00The action of Wilson and his cohorts was despicabl...The action of Wilson and his cohorts was despicable even if they had the consent of the girls which they apparently they had.

i wonder - if the action of wilson and his cohorts was "despicable", what was the action of the girls who "consented?" and, in fact, the 15 year old girl not only consented, but initiated the act.

not to excuse the debauchery of the boys involved, but is it not a double standard to hold the boys culpable, and the consenting girls as "victims?" they were certainly more involved than just saying yes.Dirk Gentlyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05210065444706441795noreply@blogger.com
