Georgia Carnival: Edition 40

Welcome to theGeorgia Blog Carnival!

The next carnival will be hosted here at
Georgia on My Mind on Friday, August1st. Submissions will be due Thursday, July 31st.

If you maintain a Georgia blog and would like to host the carnival at your site e-mail me to set up a date. It’s a great way to put your own personal spin on the carnival.

The last edition of the Georgia carnival can be found
here, and the carnival archives are found here.

Now… on to the highlights of Georgia blogging during the past two weeks.

Dawn, over at Belle of the Blog presents Hey Bulldog!. It’s a nice tribute to UGA VI and his Bulldog ancestors.

William Cotter, our wonderful Paw Paw Bill discusses the recent Miss Universe pageant with a very different take on the whole matter…..His post, Best Kept Secrets, is a great read.

Remember Billy Joel’s landmark album, “The Stranger”? I think I still have my copy around here somewhere….Can you believe it’s now 30 years old? Paul over at Cries Of The Heart helps us remember with his thoughts regarding The Stranger.

My good friend Donna always has the most interesting pictures at her blog, Sew Blessed. Her post Happy 4th and Happy 10th doesn’t disappoint. Look at the third picture down…..click on it for a close up view. Hmmmmmmmm……what is the eerie greenish lights behind the fireworks? Anyone got a clue? Are the spirits getting into the action?

Over at Considerettes Doug discusses Clinging to Guns and Religion….an Independence Day sort of post.

My son is in college…..I just want to know one thing----I’m paying $18,000 plus a year for this?

Yay!, John from Grasping For The Wind has received his first book review blurb. Check out his post My First Blurb!

Paw Paw Bill also shares with us With Soul So Dead……one interesting quote (there are many to choose from) from the article stands out, “Sometimes people confuse patriotism with political partisanship, militarism or jingoism. Not just my country right or wrong, but my country is never wrong, or I’m never wrong. However, patriotism comes in more than just one flavor, or even two.”

What do you call your minister? Did you know there is a valid argument for not using the title “Reverend”? Over at "Got Bible?" I share Reverend: False Elevation or Grammatical Error?

Calling All Georgia Bloggers……….

Chris over at Amateur Traveler podcast recently contacted me wanting to let all Georgia bloggers kow that he’s looking for guests to appear on his podcasts and talk about our wonderful state. Best Life Magazine named Amateur Traveler on of the best 10 podcasts on the Internet, and the Chicago Sun Times included the show on their list of 10 “Best travel sites”

He’s looking for Georgians who are knowledgeable about specific destinations and can tell a good yarn. The audience over at Amateur Traveler is 70% in the US and 30% international-----this means the destinations discussed need to have more than just a regional interest. Chris conducts his interviews by phone or Skype (you need a computer and a headset), and his interviews usually last about 30 minutes. You can contact Chris by using the information at this page.

Some of the questions Chris usually covers in an interview include: Why should someone visit Georgia? What were your trip highlights? What do the guidebooks/tourists miss? What should you eat? Where should you stay? What sidetrips would you recommend? and What was your biggest surprise?

Personal travel stories that lend color commentary and give a flavor of the place are always welcome.

Make sure you check Amateur Traveler out!

Well, that’s it for this edition of the Georgia Carnival. Please support these fine Georgia bloggers by letting them know you have visited them with a comment. Your continued support with your links and shout-outs at your site helps to alert others to what we Georgia bloggers have to offer:

The next edition of the carnival will be found at
Georgia on My Mind on Friday, August 1st. Posts can be sent to gamind@mail.com or use the handy submission form. Submissions are due by Thursday, July 31st by 6:00 p.m.
