Get Off the Beaten Path: MLK's India Connection

I've written before that students often arrive in my room having seen the same MLK videos, having completed the same MLK worksheets, and read the same MLK books in order to celebrate certain milestones in the American Civil Rights Movement or Dr. King’s birthday. After discussing the situation with various educators at my school and at other locations it seems that it is very easy for a faculty as a whole to get bogged down with the same curriculum materials.

There are simply too many facets to Dr. King’s life for students to be inundated with the same content over and over. One event in Dr. King’s life involves his interest in the teachings of Gandhi and King’s five week visit to India in 1959.

I’ve written about Dr. King’s trip to India and his visit with Prime Minister Nehru at History Is Elementary.

I still have the mountain top speech as my favorite. What a fascinating and great man he was.

Thanks for stopping by SarahSalmongirl and Steve. I'll try to stop by your place soon.

Suhas, welcome! First of all I'm not a dude as my picture clearly shows. Second, your reached me through a cached searched on Google with the words "on my mind". Cached pages are not always current. Therefore, you failed to notice that in my posting others have accessed through simply visiting http://mymindisongeorgia.blogspot.com without the google cache there were no misspellings of Gandhi's name. I often post, publish, and then edit after I've made the post live. This means that sometimes Google captures and error here and there before the edits.

Thanks for stopping by and using the red pencil. I have one of my own. Please note in your comment proper punctuation dictates a capital letter at the beginning of a sentence and proper names should always be capitalized.....at least..... :)
